YOUR SURGERGY QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Two of the most common types of breast cancer surgery are lumpectomy and mastectomy.
A lumpectomy is a breast-conserving surgery that involves a surgeon removing the breast tumor and a small rim of tissue around it. Unlike a mastectomy, only a portion of the breast is removed.
While the rest of the breast does remain intact, the appearance of the breast after a lumpectomy varies depending on how much tissue was removed and where the tumor was located.
A mastectomy is a surgery to remove the entire breast. In some cases, this includes removing the nipple and areola. Other surrounding tissue, such as the lymph nodes, can be removed as well.
Dealing with breast cancer and breast cancer surgery can be a trying situation for the strongest of women. Dr. Ed Clifford and Surgical Group of North Texas strive to provide the latest treatments for breast cancer, including the SAVI® applicator 5-day breast cancer treatment.
